BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a consultative meeting to solicit opinions on economic work from non-CPC representatives.

The meeting was presided over by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, on July 25.

Following an overall keynote of making progress through stability, the country has been deepening economic reform and opening up, promoting the transformation of economic growth mode, strengthening and improving macro control, and raising the quality and efficiency of economic growth, Xi said.

It is especially heartening that there have been further developments in the progress of the keynote to achieve progress through stability, as the economic growth mode transformation has quickened with more shining points, Xi said.

We have stressed focusing on improving quality and efficiency, and stressed boosting the transformation of economic growth mode and economic restructuring, through reform and opening up, Xi said.

These ideas have been accepted by more and more regions and enterprises. The sense of urgency to use a market mechanism to retro-enforce economic restructuring has strengthened remarkably, Xi said.

Xi thanked the non-CPC members for their efforts to conduct research in fields such as financial reform, technological innovation, urban-rural coordination, social management, public services and pollution treatment.

Their opinions and suggestions have played a key role in the country's scientific decision-making and policy execution, Xi said.

While affirming all the achievements, the country must remain sober-minded to deeply understand, and pay much attention to, the outstanding conflicts and problems in economic performance, as well as international economic situation, and insist on a bottom-line mentality, Xi said.

To deal with economic work in the second half of the year, the country should carry on with stable growth based on coordination, restructuring, promoting reforms, properly handling issues with overall impacts and promoting sustained and healthy economic growth, Xi said.

More efforts should be made to boost industrial restructuring, with tackling production overcapacity as the focus. Urbanization should be promoted in an active and steady way. Population sizes in various cities should be adjusted properly. More efforts should be made to improve the attractiveness of small and mid-sized cities, and the principles of economizing on land use and protecting ecology and the environment must be consistent, Xi said.

Further work should be made to step up financing supervision, guard against and defuse risks, and facilitate financial services for the real economy, Xi said.

More efforts should be carried out to safeguard and improve people's well-being and to ensure basic public services to encourage every individual to work hard and live a well-off life through hard work, Xi said.

During the meeting, Li Keqiang reported on economic work in the first half of the year and introduced plans for economic work in the second half.

Chairpersons from eight non-CPC parties, including Wan Exiang, Zhang Baowen, Chen Changzhi, Yan Junqi, Chen Zhu, Wan Gang, Han Qide and Lin Wenyi, as well as chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce Wang Qinmin and non-party representative Lin Yifu, spoke at the meeting.

They voiced their support for the analysis of the current economic situation and the plans for economic work in the second half year. They also put forward suggestions on various aspects, including boosting agricultural infrastructure and deepening financial reforms.

In addition to Xi and Li, other Standing Committee members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan and Zhang Gaoli attended the meeting.
