CAIRO, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Newly inaugurated Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi said here on Sunday that his country welcomes more investment and continued assistance from China.

The Egyptian leader made the remarks while meeting with China's Industry and Information Technology Minister Miao Wei, who was sent to attend Sisi's inauguration ceremony as the envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Both Egypt and China are ancient civilizations, and enjoy sincere friendship, said the president, adding that the two countries also have huge potential for cooperation.

He also welcomes more Chinese companies to invest in Egypt, and hopes China can continue to support his country, which is at a special period of history.

For his part, the Chinese envoy conveyed to the Egyptian president congratulations and greetings from President Xi, and said China would like to work with Egypt in promoting exchanges at all levels and deepen their cooperation of mutual benefits.

Miao also said China is ready to join Egypt in strengthening their coordination over international and regional affairs, adding that it is believed the China-Egypt relationship will have even brighter prospects under the stewardship of the two nations' leaders.

Former army chief Sisi was sworn in at the Supreme Constitutional Court as Egypt's new president on Sunday, nearly one year after the ouster of Islamist leader Mohamed Morsi.

The 59-year-old Field Marshal defeated his rival leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahy in the three-day polls held in late May with 96.91 percent of the votes.
