SANAA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Local residents Friday said the targeted hangar by the Saudi-led coalition overnight airstrikes was not a military site.
Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television earlier reported the airstrikes destroyed a drone storage east of the Yemeni rebel-held capital Sanaa.
According to the residents, the first airstrike hit an empty area near the hangar that triggered a family to flee their adjoining house.
Two other airstrikes hit directly the hangar, destroying it along with the family's house. They said the family escaped unharmed.
The targeted hangar is located in Sawan district, a residential area in the eastern part of Sanaa.
The attacked hangar appeared to be empty and there was no trace of any destroyed drone aircraft or any military installation at the scene.
The hangar and the house are owned by citizens who are our neighbors...this is not a military site, resident Mohammed Ahmed told Xinhua.
On Thursday night, Saudi Al Arabiya television station quoted coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki as saying that the airstrikes were part of a two-week coalition air campaign to destroy the Houthi drone capabilities following the deadly rebel drone attack on the Yemeni government military parade.
On Jan. 10, the Houthi rebels launched a deadly drone attack on the Yemeni government military parade in the southern province of Lahj that killed six senior military leaders, including the military intelligence chief Mohammed Tammah.
Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab military coalition that intervened in Yemen in 2015 to support government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi after the Iranian-allied Houthi rebels forced him into exile and seized much of the country's north, including Sanaa.
