NAIROBI, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- As the dust settles on the London Diamond League, Kenya's Milcah Chemos Chweya is smiling all the way to the bank.

Chemos, the world 3,000m steeplechase champion, becomes the first athlete in the premier track and field competition, to clinch the Samsung Diamond Race with two races to spare in Zurich and Brussels all set for September.

This means that she can now reserve her energy and concentrate on clinching gold at the world championships and maybe make an attempt on breaking the world record, which is currently being held by Russian Gulnara Galkina 8:58.81.

Chemos clocked her personal best time at the Rome Golden Gala, the third stop in the 14-tier Samsung Diamond League in June when she clocked 9:12.89 to win the race.

She remains unbeaten this season having started with a good performance in Doha winning in 9:16.44.

She went to win in her specialty at Rome, New York, Lausanne and London to see her tally shoot up to 20 points. The second best placed athlete is Ethiopia's Sofia Assefa with 10.

This means the maximum points she can get in Brussels will be 18 if she wins the race. This is less compared to Chemos tally.

All she needs to do now is compete in Brussels and irrespective of whether she finishes or not, the Diamond trophy and 40,000 U.S. dollars will be hers.

The Samsung Diamond League encompasses 32 individual event disciplines, with a points scoring Diamond Race which runs throughout the 14 meeting series.

Winners of each Diamond Race will be crowned with a Diamond Trophy and a cash prize but more importantly, after showing season long consistency earns the unchallenged honour of being the world number one.
