WARSAW, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Italian center back Giorgio Chiellini will miss the former World Cup winners' quarterfinal clash of Euro 2012 against England in Kiev due to injury.
Chiellini, who limped off with a hamstring problem in Monday's 2-0 Group C victory over Ireland, underwent tests on Wednesday morning, and learnt the bad news from the Italian team doctor.
Enrico Castellacci announced the 27-year-old Juventus defender unavailable for Sunday's quarterfinal game.
We'll do everything to get him back as soon as possible, said Castellacci. We're not setting limits. If we make progress we'll try to get him back for the first meaningful match.
Chiellini will likely be replaced by another Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci.
