欣逢国庆，便邀上三五好友同赴上海书城。

书城早已是人山人海。寻觅好久，才找到一本《哈里波特》。蛮精致的。一人说。我可是半点兴趣也无：也就只是个小巫师而已，咱中国古书堆里的巫师可多得很，法力也强多了。又有人去买《我为歌狂》，只见那里已排起长队。不经意一瞥，又看见什么我为画狂之类的狂书。金庸笔下有个杨过，是为爱而狂，想不到当今世人胜古人多矣，不论甚么东西，皆可疯狂一番，于是中国又现狂人。逛了一圈，前些时候非常流行的《奶酪》已经不见踪影，不知被哪些勤劳可爱的老鼠抢购空了，可我却闻到了那阵阵余香--现在的人们总是这样：有看不完的书，读不完的报，学不完的知识，充不完的电。这大概也是顺乎时代之潮流吧。

国庆放假本是好的，可是我们有看不完的书，读不完的报，学不完的知识，充不完的电--这当然仅指上述之类而言--那么，这不就是一种迂腐的表现吗?中国人何必再酸上几千年呢?
National Day holiday is good, but we have endless books, endless newspapers, endless knowledge, endless electricity - this only refers to the above, of course - then, is this not a kind of pedantic performance? Why should the Chinese people be sour for thousands of years?
